Hello friends,
How are you?
The electricity is down and we’ve run out of gas too, so we just have to wait on the electricity to be able to eat later, but that’s a blessed upheaval because I can write this article off the remaining battery on my computer and I am pretty sure everyone else is doing something else in the meanwhile instead of waiting for the electricity to come back.
It’s the new year and we’ve already had two cuts over the last seven days. Sometimes when the electricity goes out after families have had their dinner it’s an unusual silence, and when you go out in the street the silence that accompanies the darkness is almost as if snow had fallen during the day and overnight like some countries up north only here it’s hot or not so cold, but the silence is the same. The birds and animals are confused.
The silence is something, I’m sure you can relate to it. Silence is golden because how many of us actually schedule time for silence, at least ten minutes to sit and be, yes, do nothing, think nothing and just enjoy silence? When I wrote the first draft of my book The South African: True Colours I sat in silence for hours, in the mountains of Switzerland. A story for another time.
So, are you relaxed, having a seat somewhere, sitting on a train perhaps reading this, sitting on the kitchen table reading this? Yes, it’s better to unwind and be seated with some silence to read and absorb information.
Blessed upheaval and divine mistakes, I’m sure I have tons of events on this one over the years, and it would have been good if most of those years I got to understand that upheaval is a blessing and not such a bad monster. When I realised that we did not come to earth to seek comfort, we came on earth to experience, learn, teach, do, uplift, share etc. and that comfort is a by-product of hard work. Like the heart rate (I’m sure you’ve seen it on the machines on TV or in hospitals) you go steady and then boom something happens to change your course, then you go steady and then boom something happens to change your course, sometimes the pulse is low, sometimes the pulse is fast and so this is life, full of ups and downs but the upheavals are what makes our purpose (everything around it; values, morals, beliefs, better decisions etc. if we take this positively) stronger.
In the last six years, I’ve experienced divine mistakes. I’ve noticed them more and more ever since I began meditating. Something went wrong, it was out of my control, I panicked, it brought a whole lot of upheaval and like a volcano, a whole lot of feelings, emotions, thoughts just rushed out like vomit only to find out it was for my best outcome. It took away the dead ends, dead parts and made space for growth; rejuvenation. Turned out that the passing event prepared me for something which was aligned to my path. The best possible path for your own unique journey.
Divine mistakes, you’re possibly still trying to grip onto this concept. Let’s put some hypothetical examples.
- Say someone takes a photo of you by mistake and then they show it to you, you’re like, actually, I don’t have a shot like this anywhere, and before you know it, it ends up in the hands of a modelling agency and now you are sitting with a modelling contract; a pretty good one.
- Say you’re trying to sell your house but so much time has passed, and you still can’t sell it. You can’t find the right buyer and you don’t want to lower the price. At the same time, you’re looking at houses which you want to live in. You find a good one, but the price of that house is too high, and you can’t move with being stuck with the current issue; selling your house. A few years down the line you find out the reason why things have happened the way they did. The right timing to selling your house and finding an even better home for the price you were going to pay on the other house which you were so disappointed about back then.
We’re such control freaks and have so many systems in place to keep us together that it can even keep us apart from learning some more valuable things in life. Continuing your practices is good and it keeps you on your path but ensuring when to give yourself permission to break free to learn some other hacks is essential, and who does this for you when you don’t know how and when? The universe, call it God, whatever you want, it decides what you require next but if you keep looking at things from a negative state of mind you won’t find the blessing in the upheaval or the blessing in the divine mistake.
We have this blame habit, this habit to control our lives (from a real good perspective) but sometimes it takes someone else to interrupt, something else to interrupt the pattern so that you can keep growing and fulfil the part you have to play in the world.
It’s hard to sit, see, observe, be patient, wait, act etc. to find out what the current situation requires from you. Sometimes you just have to sit in silence and let it play out the way it has to so that you can see the blessing. It’s hard to know what to do, the exact thing that the upheaval requires you to do, that’s why you have to rely on your compass; intuition.
When you’re taking the road less travelled in life, you have to follow divine guidance because the path that’s waiting for you no one on earth will ever know how to get to, it’s the same when it comes to another person trying to find a solution for say, a cure for something. Sometimes interruptions are necessary to force you to change direction, looks at other ways or an alternative way to doing something, or it’s the universe, God or whatever saying that the situation has run its course, it’s time to move on and come back to this another time.
Sometimes these pattern interrupters come into your life so that you take a break from just banging your head on the wall from something that isn’t working for you anymore or needs a new view from a relaxed or different perspective which you don’t have right now. It’s not to say you’re giving up, it’s just to say that it’s not time as yet and that something else needs to fall into place before you get the result you’re aiming for. That may mean that you require a certain mindset or something to happen in some area of your life before things take off, maybe you need to meet a certain person for something to happen … there are so many possibilities and change can happen from one day to the next, hence why it’s so important not to give up or fall into negativity.
And so, to conclude, when upheavals or someone’s innocent mistake affects you, take it on and look forward to seeing how you can come out on the other side. Diamonds form from immense pressure.
Yours sincerely,
T. Dench Patel
P.S – 21:02 pm – The electricity was gone from 3 pm to 8 pm, gas restored. It turned out to be a really good blessing, especially after I’ve finished this article and closed my computer waiting for the right time to post this article.
