Hello friends,
how are you doing today?
How was the weekend?
Not sure if you have seen these articles of mine The new world will have no space for old ways and The new world will have no space for old ways – Part 2 – People vs Passports, Nationalities and Currencies
These articles were very popular last week and had more than one hundred and fifty-three shares while promoting them for two days on Instagram in six countries, it had roughly one thousand seven hundred clicks on Facebook by people from eight countries with one thousand five hundred unique clicks. This is definitely a subject that the world is interested in and if we could promote it for longer, we could have found out more. Using the current statistics around this information I couldn’t help to wonder where is South Africa in terms of being part of the world? Where is South Africa with regards to being onboard with worldwide equality? What is South Africa’s role when it comes to inspiring the world?
I’m promoting equality around the world when we still do not have equality here in South Africa. I mean can’t our leaders in South Africa see that we’re working with the world right now, being united, and the only unity shown in South Africa right now is by the majority of its citizens, all races, who are following the rules so that more people don’t die from Coronavirus?
So why is affirmative action still here?
If people are still promoting black empowerment it’s no different to white empowerment whilst we lived in apartheid. Again, putting everyone in a box when there was/is a percentage of people who struggled during Apartheid and are still struggling now, post-Apartheid. On television we are seeing only the native African villages suffer, we are not shown, and the world isn’t shown the millions of people who are hungry in our country in all races. We only get shown the townships where poor African South Africans live. We only get shown the stories at the squatter camps. Africa should stop associating itself only with the very poorest out there, there are people in Europe, America and other countries who are also considered poor but at least there is equality in majority of the countries with equal opportunities, meaning even if people live in poor towns and villages overseas, they still have equality and equal opportunities. Almost as if you’re born American you deserve all American rights, and the same goes for all other countries. I don’t entirely believe anymore in patriotism after being a foreigner myself. The rest of the world has gone forward in terms of people and their value now more than ever and in South Africa, we’re still sitting with the “What has been done to us in the past, everyone in the country must pay for it.” This mentality has been unfair to generations that had no idea that they’ve lived in apartheid whether they were born rich, middle-class, or poor. They’re all grown up adults now, and most of them like me left this country because of injustice.
Are food packs being distributed to all races? Are there enough food packs? Charities are going bust because the sources from where they are getting money from to feed people are getting smaller due to the number of people who have either lost their jobs, businesses having to cut down along with some salaries, there are people in debt and there are a lot of people sticking domestic violence because of the rapid change and toll the Coronavirus has taken on the economy and on people’s personal lives. I mean do we really need affirmative action on top of the South African nation? It’s outdated. Are you making Coronavirus racist by only supporting the majority and not the minority through the food packs being given out? I want to be clear there are white pensioners who got nowhere to go and are homeless right now, coloured disable people while there are Indians who are struggling, I’m not really finding out who they are, this could be because Indian people don’t like to live in the light of shame or asking someone for food. It’s common to get some help from friends and other people they know.
The thing is that South Africa is making provisions for better facilities in case more people get infected. This is great but why should alcohol and tobacco be so important and why is Mr President not looking at this? According to this WHO (World Organisation Health) study and looking at our statistics around domestic violence (here you can find all the statistics with WHO Intimate partner violence and alcohol)
The WHO report on the link above states this, In South Africa, 65% of women experiencing spousal abuse within the last 12 months reported that their partner always or sometimes used alcohol before the assault.
Now back to the topic, if this is just the tip of the iceberg, wouldn’t and shouldn’t now be the best time to remove affirmative action, raise the standards of a moral and quality life because, by the time the world moves on we will be behind, again, and I guarantee you, South Africans will have more opportunity outside of South Africa if we don’t grow, grow up, change our mentality, level up and move on from this past. Affirmative action is causing more racism. More and more people will leave this country the first chance they get. Now is the perfect time to start over. Why do we have this old system in our country, a symbol of vengeance of the past? Coronavirus doesn’t see race; Coronavirus isn’t racist so how come affirmative action still exists? If it’s not Coronavirus causing hunger and unemployment, it’s affirmative action that’s causing it. One fine day it will be something else if we don’t wake up and change something.
Yours sincerely,
