Hello friends,
Hope you are doing great.
I for one, am happy that things have calmed down.
You know, unexpected things that come up in life. ?
Shoo yes, yes Sunday meaning yesterday was a bit hectic (if I’ve lost you here, it’s because I’ve made every day a Sunday). I have no idea how I’ve juggled that much yesterday and (not bragging) amongst all of that, I still won the best speaker award after everything. I really had a lot on my mind and a lot that I had to get done physically so winning the best speaker award came as a shock. Must be all the skills and experience of juggling several things at a time when I lived overseas on my own most of the time, however, I gave it my all in the practice sessions for the speech.
You might not want to hear/read this one, I also happened to try and save a bird yesterday, but it died in my hands. It’s the first time I got to observe how an injured grey dove died in my hands, at some point it got a bit freaky that I dropped the bird out of fear. I experienced feeling the bird as its soul left its body, it was a bit scary, I won’t lie. A scheduled day went very unscheduled… and in the end… for all the right reasons, still not happy that the grey dove died though.
So, where do I begin here?
Firstly, grab yourself a cuppa, luckily someone got my back while I am writing this article. We’re still working on the website and doing tests too. Wow! Sis made moi a green tea, I was about to go and get me one… Lucky me ?.
….
A deep breath in and out… and a sigh of relieve is leaving my body right now…
Here we are together, you know being single and being physically present as a member of the family… all, I mean all, has its challenges. Don’t kid yourself… A single person doing everything on their own is the real challenge I tell you. What I have found with living with a family is that we got each other’s back, that’s really nice. That security when you are so far from home gets forgotten and you know what? Everyone needs that moral support and encouragement even a little bit… I really felt a lack there and finished my tank of encouragement and moral support etc. until there was none left. Ask our family, we really do know what it is like, each in our own perspective, what it’s like to have to do it yourself, until now, now we work as a really nice team. Before I just took care of stuff, didn’t talk to anyone about it much and now more than ever, we know that won’t be the case ever. We hardly communicated with each other. We all have learnt that no one can make it on their own, no one. You can only make it so far on your own but not all the way on your own. – T. Dench Patel, 4 March 2020, 19:15
So, making these videos, it really blew the people who knew, know us and don’t know us off track while those following my work seem to get where I am coming from. The misconception you get from a one-minute video is incredible and how people dub your day according to that one minute, how they can even dub you in just one minute. Wow! Judgements, some comments were a laugh, some people didn’t follow the story to get the gist, they still don’t. Mostly, people who don’t get it, or are not yet there don’t understand that my journey is three hundred and sixty degrees far from theirs or not that far but not the same either. There will always be something I won’t ever be able to relate to in your life and you in mine, sure tell me about it. I will most definitely want to hear what’s it like to be in your shoes. I seek you know, live life like a seeker, philosopher, etc. even though I have my share of rhetorical questions through my own journey, what really helps my writing, increase awareness, raise the vibes is to learn about what people really go through and learn more about other passions that I never knew I like/liked and so much more, then communicate it in a format that one can process.
This was and still is my number one take away from making one-minute videos. Please take this with you in your life, you can change your thought, focus and mood in one minute or less. You can change a lot in just one minute. T. Dench Patel, 4 March 2020, 19:42 (UK time) It takes being proactive and spontaneous to see an opportunity and grab it without wasting time – T. Dench Patel, 4 March 2020, 19:43 (UK time). While some people who don’t get you, think you’re sitting at home doing nothing by watching one-minute of your video is the part that really fascinated me. Some people even concluded that I’m sitting in a comfort zone. Trust me, I was, and I wasn’t…
“What do we really know about people?” I asked myself. I guess that is why people say first impressions really last, I now get it. So, I gathered that people come from a reflection of themselves while I’m sure the mentors who really know me can pull out where there has been growth and where more work is needed. Personally, I feel like I’ve achieved a lot in terms of helping people around the world, promoting South Africa, being realistic about South Africa’s challenges and challenges around the world, some unseen and unknown realities. I feel like I am coming to some kind of closure of the work I was/am doing in South Africa, some aspects of our world, my books The South African: True Colours and some parts of The South African: Roamer and even my book Light.
I’ve uncovered that South Africa is much more racist than I thought. I discovered that a lot of growth needs to take place on all levels i.e. infrastructure, the way workers are treated, the governmental issues, violence, corruption, affirmative action, education, like…. so much more, before mindset can even begin to reach a new level of consciousness. Check out all my articles as well as my videos. I’ve learnt about some great things about South Africa too. I’ve learnt what works for the world and what doesn’t or what could work for the world, what won’t. I’ve learnt a massive load about myself. I’ve learnt how to see the positive, live the positive even through adversity. I’ve learnt about unconditional love and family… like seriously there’s just so much… The one-minute videos have also become a wonderful memory to keep and remind me of this special place, my roots, home, family etc. There are no words … no words for its value.
Believe it or not, tons of things were accomplished outside of the one-minute video… think about it, how many minutes do we have in a day?
The one-minute videos, the over a minute videos or less has inspired, showed, taught me and others something about each other that otherwise, we’d never have known.
Thank you for being part of it and God bless.
Oh! And lastly… The one-minute videos taught me to have more guts… people are always going to talk…People will either approach you knowing your full worth or approach you from a reflection of their worth – T. Dench Patel, 4 March 2020, 20:50 (UK Time)
Yours sincerely,
