Hello friends,
How are you? Have you missed me?
It was probably very good that I was away, after all, if I don’t go away, I can’t write awesome content with peace and clarity. Of course, going away means I can always write from a new perspective.

I am positive this article is going to change your style of living from now.
So today is Diwali, and I figured what an auspicious title this is and that it fits well with Diwali. If you’re not familiar with the term Diwali then you’d be familiar with the term “Festival of Lights,” if not that then you can pick up my books; The South African: True Colours and The South African: Roamer to understand what this festival is all about. Since today is the festival of lights, you can also check out my children’s book called Light which has been released on Friday through Kindle or Amazon. Do follow me on Instagram, Twitter or YouTube so that you can see some videos of how the festival of lights is celebrated.
Since it’s Diwali and because I’ve forgotten what colour does for you, I started getting back to wearing colours again. Seven years ago, when I was given a chakra stones necklace, I realised the importance of colours, but it’s only lately that I started to implement more colour into my life. Here’s why.
Wearing colour affects your mood; it can help you to keep your spirit foul, or it could help to boost your mood. If you are struggling with depression, this is a great tip for you. Only buy colourful clothes so that you have no option but to pick something nice and colourful. Personally, I would go for chakra colours purely because this is what they represent.
Red represents grounding, stability, physical energy, change, courage, passion, action, will and desire.
Orange represents success, self-respect, creativity, passion, sexuality, independence and fertility.
Yellow represents energy, confidence, intellect, power, self-esteem and strength.
Green represents health, prosperity and abundance.
Blue represents wisdom, clarity, self-expression, truth, communication and speech.
Royal blue / Indigo represents extrasensory perception, intuition, imagination and inner wisdom.
Purple represents unprejudiced, universal connection, spirituality, consciousness, awareness of the world and yourself.
In psychology and when it comes to chakras, there are positives and negatives to colours. This is the psychological view of how colour can affect your mood.
Empower yourself with colour psychology
Let me add another perspective to colours. Colours don’t only affect you but also the people around you.
One day I was wearing a bright yellow top on a winter’s day, and I tell you what, I would not have received such a massive reaction from people if I wore that same bright yellow top on a summer’s day. Women looked in my direction as I was paying for what I bought at the till and I even got stopped by one woman saying that I look very happy, and bright and that she is going to start to wear more colour. I had people smiling at me, and when people smile at me, I most certainly smile back.
Did you know that in ancient times, Egyptians and Greeks used coloured minerals for medicine? Persians also used colour as therapy.

The spiritual meaning of colours
It’s quite interesting that the article above goes in order of the colours of the chakra.
In Hindu culture, the theme of colours is really big. The festivals are colourful the clothing is colourful, and there is even a day where you splash coloured powdered wet or dry onto each other. The festival came into being for reasons other than the importance of colour but the colours still have meaning e.g.
Red symbolises love and fertility. Yellow which is usually turmeric is a natural remedy which does not only act as an antiseptic but also as a skin remedy, hence why it’s used on a couple before they are married. Blue represents the Hindu god Krishna, and green is for new beginnings.
Do you remember the young days?
When you used to pick out what you were going to wear that day, or you were that cool teenager, so you needed to look cool, remember, you wanted to impress that guy or girl, or that feeling you got when certain colours just looked good on you, matched with your skin tone or eyes. Do you remember how you felt or feel when you feel / felt good in what you wear/wore? So, why did that stop?
When I look at different cultures, I see how colour plays a role. Let’s look at Red Indians and their beliefs around colours.
Red Indians use face paint that means something and then war paint that means something else.
Face paint
Red represents faith, beauty and happiness
Black represents victory and success
White represents sharing, purity and light
Yellow/Orange represents intellect and determination
Green represents nature, harmony and healing
Blue represents wisdom and intuition
Purple represents a sacred colour and symbolises power, mystery and magic
War paint
Black represents power, aggression and strength
Red represents blood, violence and energy
White represents mourning
Yellow/Orange represents willing to fight to the death
Green represents endurance
Blue represents confidence
Purple represents a sacred colour and symbolises power, mystery and magic
If you go into the history of the Mayans, you will find colours to them represents gods.
Take a look at this article The sacred colours of the maya and this article Colours are deeply embedded in the mayan culture.
There is no coincidence that the Hindu culture, the Red Indian culture, the Mayans and the psychology of colours all have one thing in common; the same colours keep coming up. Have you noticed from reading all of the above?
In the Hindu culture women who have lost their husbands in the past days wore white forever and no other colour.
Black seems to be the general colour for most funerals.
To end off, I wanted to tell you that a spiritualist guided me to wear more colours and said it will help me to open up as in her eyes I seem to be shutting down. This was at least about seven years ago. I also carried stones of various colours to help me.
When I prayed, she also guided me to use unscented white candles and not red candles or whatever colour candles I found in the shop that month.
Hope this article helps you massively to shine some colour in your life, especially on the dull days or winter days. Since today is the festival of lights we place oil lamp or candles all around the house and light them.
Happy Diwali and even if you don’t celebrate Diwali I wish you light, love and prosperity in every area of your life.

I never understood madness, never accepted madness, never embraced madness; until such time that I allowed madness to encompass the entirety of my being: it was then I understood I am seven years old and I am MAD. I will forever cherish the privilege of being in possession of your book, I am thankful and appreciative… This is the book that should be made compulsory to each and every child…in this country as part of their curriculum, period. By the way me and family are going through it again and again and again and again and again forevermore… I thank you
