Hello friends,
Yay! Monday with you again. Hope you had a lovely weekend.
Here we are on a brand new day, and you must be wondering what When an uncontrollable fire has to burn is about.
You know this topic came about when I was having a conversation with someone about trying to control things in life, you know, I’m sure we all have met people including ourselves in some phase in our lives where we find or found ourselves putting out a fire here and once that’s done, another one starts to burn there and once that one is put out another one starts over there and so forth? I sure will put my hand up here, I went through this phase at some point in my twenties.
Then this conversation spun a whole new Aha moment, which made me wonder about mother earth and nature, natural instincts, how unpredictable nature is, for example, the sea, how natural fires can start, storms, winds, earthquakes, unpredictable everything … even human nature. I mean it’s the same with surfing when a person comes across a strong current or rip curl, as uncontrollable as it is forcing to fight against it doesn’t help, in most instances, you have to just let the current run its course until you find a space to break off it and swim to a calmer part.
From where this topic stems? When I was discussing with a person how important it is to walk in life being aware, we don’t have to react to everything, we can just be aware of what’s going on the left, right, centre, angle, and behind, not necessarily be in control of everything, not necessarily paranoid, and not necessarily being ignorant either. When we are in a world where we have been learning and growing, the more we move forward in health, wealth, self and social the more we have to be aware and realistic, not everyone is on this path and being intentional about picking information is important. Just like one mentor said, “Pick your fights well.”
You know the current Coronavirus climate reminds me of a fire, and now you will say, Patel, you’re going against the rip curl here… I want to pose to you a situation. You have a garden, in this garden, you have some herbs, vegetables, fruit, flowers, weeds and you’ve been trying very hard to keep this garden free of weeds, but there are a few here and there that keep coming up between the herbs, vegetables, fruit, and flowers. All of a sudden lightning hits your garden and you got some fires. The fire is growing and now you’re wondering what you should save first, which plants, the patches are in different ends. So, you estimate what’s important first, seeing the weeds burn is okay but seeing the herbs and fruit trees catching fire is something you want to stop first.
I see us all in this predicament often in life, and I feel that there are also as many people holding onto the weeds and seeds in this garden of theirs. We think it’s crazy, we think the whole garden sometimes needs to be saved, but what if it’s the weeds that need to burn so that the seeds can take their place? So often we don’t know we’re burning away the seeds with the weeds, simply and purely because we don’t know any better. We self-sabotage, we see things as they’re happening to us and not for us, and so we hold onto the negative toxic friends, the negative habits, when really the universe, God, higher power, call it what you want is showing us that it is no longer relevant for our growth. Maybe the apple tree needs to go, you weren’t even eating the apples anyway. So often we see that which is about to go, going or gone and not what can be there or what it will be replaced with. We often have to have the answer before anything happens, and that’s control. (Please do not take the Coronavirus climate from the paragraph before and misunderstand it to this paragraph, I am coming to the Coronavirus climate and its comparison with an uncontrollable fire in the next paragraph).
You know this Coronavirus can seem like an uncontrollable fire almost, and we’ve seen the damage but it’s again what we put our focus on and if we can see this from a wider perspective. I see this Coronavirus fire as burning away what is no longer necessary for the growth of everyone on this planet including the plants and animals. It has pushed all things we think we could control in front of us to review, to think that even something as tiny as visiting someone has come to us for review. Systems, decisions, the smallest of things that we have never even once considered, travel, visiting people, shopping, and even breathing would be affected. I simply feel that this virus has made people stop to reflect, rest and think a bit more about who we are, what we’re capable of and where we’re heading. I certainly have witnessed the seeds sprouting, growing, saved and I’ve certainly witnessed the weeds of the structure and fragments of society being destroyed. Now the question remains is the seed planted in the right place and how strong with it be nurtured for its foundation to be lasting? That is up to all of us…
Yours sincerely,
T. Dench Patel
