I never used to believe in this a couple of years ago even when my mother used to do a few of these things. It was only when I started travelling and meeting people from different countries that I realised that they too were doing things to cleanse the energy in their home space. Some of the practices were similar to Hindu and Chinese traditions.
1) Salt in the home
Some people spread rough salt in the corners of their home while some sprinkle table salt onto the carpet, after all, it can be picked up by the vacuum. The salt crystals have the ability to absorb negative energy.
In Spain, a few South Americans cleaned the apartment with salt water.
A salt bath
A salt bath helps a lot with aches and pains and removes the build-up of toxins from the body. It’s rejuvenating. Having a salt bath helps you to sleep well, helps with blood circulation and reduces the blood pressure. A salt bath also relaxes the muscles.
Recommend: My personal favourite is to add a little bit of bio-tissue oil, if I have eucalyptus leaves, I’d add them in, burn some white sage and play some meditation music.
Recommend: Use Epsom salt or sea salt.
Oral health
As children when we got ill we often gargled our mouth with salt water which helped a lot when one had a sore throat.
2) Burning Sage
White sage is used in many ceremonies and you can find them already bundled up. Burning sage helps cleanse the home space as well as traumas, bad experiences and negative energy from others.
See these full benefits of burning sage on the link below. If possible, use white sage. White sage is often used in ceremonies.

3) Declutter
Decluttering helps to get rid of the old energy and energy attached to things. Let go of what you don’t use in a year. I’m a firm believer of if you’re not going to use it in a year you will never use it. Even if something is of sentimental value or you’re holding onto something that you don’t use or that someone who is no longer in our world gave you then let it go. Don’t cling onto that emotion and energy linked to that object. Declutter your purse, wallet, everything.
Let go of the old music you’re holding memories to
You might not have ever heard this one but I tell you something. When most of my belongings weren’t returned to me including the music that I collected (at the time) CDs, I was sad. Eventually, with time, I forgot the music I collected but along with that certain memories also got forgotten. Being a traveller, I had collected memories through music. Some songs that I liked reminded me of my family, friends or even of me in my old days. Once that was gone, I was open to different music and less room to remember old things and bring in new memories and of course, I had more time doing something new. Today when I remember the old songs that play randomly on the radio I would be reminded of a country and a time in my youth when I used to listen to it but not a lot of feelings are attached to it now than when I continued playing it.
4) Loud noises
In the Chinese culture and Hindu culture use noise to drive away evil spirits according to tradition, hence why the fireworks. Play loud music. Here’s one I use often
- Cleanse negative energy from your home – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tByJMiQp-IM
- Increase positive vibrations – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9s_ieXRmU8
Sometimes I also use the law of attraction music.
5) Having plants
Having plants in your home helps purify the air.

6) Put inspiring decorations and beautiful things
If you have anything negative that you think won’t do you harm and it’s just something to put the kettle and toaster on because no one will even notice it then think again. Increasing positive vibrations and positivity by having things around you that remind you of what you’re trying to attract e.g. a candle with a quote saying, “Eat, pray and love” or “Never give up”.
