Hey friends,
How’z life? Was the weekend alright?
“Here we go, she’s asking that again. Well, my weekend wasn’t that great, it’s not like she can do anything about it!”
Okay, I might not be able to do anything about it, but you can? Forget about last weekend there are still more weekends to come :D.
So, what are your plans for next weekend? Isn’t every day a weekend? 😀
Alright, I’ll stop teasing you.
This Saturday, yep the one that just went, I’ve permitted myself to break all the rules. I had an excuse; it was my birthday. At the end of it, I said, “Wow! I have never done this and broke so many rules in what…? Nineteen years. Yes, some things I only remember doing nineteen years ago.” I’ve decided to give myself a break from being the soldier I am and have been for years. You know, when life forces you to take responsibility overnight for your own good, being a soldier really is a good thing and after not spending a single birthday with my family in nineteen years, this weekend turned out to be so fun. My family and I celebrated life in our own way.
It was hard to hold myself back from doing no work. Wow! Mission accomplished, I did no work whatsoever that day, alright… almost the whole weekend, and yes, sadly, I do work on a Saturday, but it doesn’t feel like work to me. Thank God, I can safely say that I am not addicted to the series Iron Fist and Lock and Key… seriously… guys is this what watching a series is like? I found myself screaming at the characters …. RUN!!! BEHIND YOU… GRRRR, YOU MONKEY! … BEHINNNND YOU!
Ya! I can get pretty noisy when I watch entertaining stuff. I can’t help feeling irritated with the stubborn characters… especially when I know that there’s a sound in the kitchen and I will be faster than them at reaching the kitchen, grabbing something and knocking the intruder on their head faster than the character would in that scene.
Anyway, let’s get back to the real topic before we get stuck at that scene in the series. Give yourself permission is the title of this topic because I believe that in order to receive, after doing the work in life, often receiving means giving yourself permission. Yes, chill out, what you’re working for, working on, and wanting out of life will happen, it might not happen now because something needs to click. Chilling out and giving yourself permission to live, feel, and immerse yourself in some experiences is cool as long as you know your limits.
It was an interesting experience. By giving yourself permission, you allow yourself to try something else, another way perhaps to live than the way you’re currently living, and the more you give yourself permission the way, answers, solutions, new ideas, new information, and new interests happen.
I mean, you can be holding yourself back in all sorts of ways like for example take a look at this article. According to this article, you could be holding yourself back from being happy and by…
Giving yourself:
- Permission for acceptance
- Permission to be imperfect
- Permission to not stay in the blues
- Permission to choose
- Permission to try new things
- Permission to take a chance
- Permission to take action
You can change your life around…
Give yourself permission to go on holiday, take weekend breaks, to try something new (not drugs, please), to laugh, to play, to make mistakes and wow… I would never have thought of this one… permission to ask for help. See this one is a big one for me. Give yourself permission to start over, smile a lot…

I often don’t praise myself enough, pat myself on the back for the small wins and small steps.
Give yourself permission to take a route that usually won’t be an obvious one to your dreams T. Dench Patel, 10 February 2020, 17:58
We are very reluctant to go through a new door, a completely unexpected move, something that might not even look like your dream can be a step to your dream. If this opportunity is in front of you, do you give yourself permission to remove the belief you have of how your dreams will come true? This one certainly takes courage…
Give yourself permission to pivot
I believe this one is a hard one for most human beings. We tend to keep going in the same direction even when things are not working out. Creatures of habit we are but pivoting helps you to learn other skills, grow, change, risk-taking or a new direction. I mean how else do we reinvent ourselves, and create breakthrough cures, products, solutions to the new ever-changing world.

3 ways to give yourself permission to succeed
And so, to conclude,
This birthday I’ve given myself permission to indulge in the fine South African crisps, the fine South African ice-creams, the fine South African food, the fine entertainment that amazing directors create, the fine family that we’ve all learnt to build in the last year especially (I speak for me and many others), and all the fine things that appeared in our lives this weekend… even the two doves who walked into our home. It was an amazing feeling having a dove in my hands, actually carrying it, it was so calm and then setting it free.
Finally, to end, here are some quotes on giving yourself permission.
“Nobody can hurt me without my permission.” – Mahatma Gandhi
“When you give yourself permission to communicate what matters to you in every situation you will have peace despite rejection or disapproval. Putting a voice to your soul helps you to let go of the negative energy of fear and regret.” – Shannon L. Alder
“There is freedom found in allowing ourselves to be a work in progress.” – Unknown
“It’s not about finding your voice, it’s about giving yourself permission to use your voice.” – Kris Carr
