Hello friends,
how’s it going? Hope you had a lovely weekend.
I’m going to dive right in, you know what brought me to this article?
Have you heard the joke, The Drowning Man?
A fellow was stuck on his rooftop in a flood. He was praying to God for help.
Soon a man in a rowboat came by and the fellow shouted to the man on the roof, “Jump in, I can save you.”
The stranded fellow shouted back, “No, it’s OK, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me.”
So, the rowboat went on.
Then a motorboat came by. “The fellow in the motorboat shouted, “Jump in, I can save you.”
To this, the stranded man said, “No thanks, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith.”
So, the motorboat went on.
Then a helicopter came by and the pilot shouted down, “Grab this rope and I will lift you to safety.”
To this, the stranded man again replied, “No thanks, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith.”
So, the helicopter reluctantly flew away.
Soon the water rose above the rooftop and the man drowned. He went to Heaven. He finally got his chance to discuss this whole situation with God, at which point he exclaimed, “I had faith in you, but you didn’t save me, you let me drown. I don’t understand why!”
To this God replied, “I sent you a rowboat and a motorboat and a helicopter, what more did you expect?”
I believe there are other versions of The Drowning Man.
Every day we can choose, every thought that crosses our minds, we can choose to listen to it, ignore it or change the track. If what you’re doing is working continue but keep learning. The only way you can make better choices/decisions is by doing, teaching, learning and sharing. Sometimes you only make sense of the experience after some time has passed and sometimes you only realise the mistake in the choice/decision when you hear other people talking about their experiences; successes, failures, wrong beliefs etc. – T. Dench Patel, 4 May 2020, 15:27
It’s important to get this and know fully that your life is yours, with that comes full ownership of your decisions, the information you consume, who you spend your time with, the work you involve yourself in and the decisions you make for your health. Once you’re clear on this you can’t play the blame game. There’s a difference in being born with circumstances but then there comes a time when you can take control of your choices. What we choose is our own journey, the path we’re on has the correct timing. – T. Dench Patel, 4 May 2020, 15:40
For us to understand our choices better we must understand ourselves first. When we’re ready to be awakened to understand ourselves, will we then be able to understand what story our choices came from. – T. Dench Patel, 4 May 2020, 15:40
There surely can be fear of making choices, because we all have our own baggage of the past or even present self-sabotaging behaviours, regret, resentment, anger, shame and whatever else… and sometimes not wanting to take up choices/decisions helps us to not want to feel or take on any more. The truth is this is what the comfort zone does. The comfort zone is this, there is an underlying reason why we do not want to take on more than we already know or have felt. You might already know the reason for this, or you might not. The more you get out of your comfort zone, the more you will realise what your comfort zone moment was all about. Spiritual growth is a time thing, and everyone blossoms in their own time. – T. Dench Patel, 4 May 2020, 15:51
Fear is such a thing that can make anyone still, fear is a massive reason why people can either move or standstill. Check out this article which is currently getting a lot of traction on Google Fear – Face your fears and you will find yourself living a dream
Look at the opportunities coming to you and the choices you’re making, no matter how small they are. What are you choosing? What do you keep choosing almost all the time? What is the result you receive most of the time? Ask yourself these questions and reflect on all the decisions that were made through risk, planning or patterns. Change the way in which you’re choosing solely by looking at your track record.
Choosing what is in alignment with your soul mission
I’m sure you can resonate with this. Maybe all your life you wanted to be a doctor or a surgeon or almost all your life you’ve been choosing something better than the next thing you’ve chosen (your personal perception). How much of this is in line with your soul mission? I mean, when we were in the twenties it was impressive to meet someone who said that all their life they wanted to be this and then there was a pool of us who didn’t know how to tap into what we always loved doing as opposed to what is standing in our way to fulfil that vision of our soul mission. This in itself is a journey, just like the journey of a screaming five-year-old who still can’t understand where they are acting out from. Growing is entering the unknown, always. Choosing can simply mean entering what you know most of the time or choosing to enter the unknown. This will determine how much you will learn, grow and excel. – T. Dench Patel, 4 May 2020, 16:12
This is why sitting in the comfort zone can mean so many things to so many people. If I was to look at the last year when for the first time I’ve been with my family after eighteen years and resolving all our past matters I seem to have been sitting in some kind of incubation process. Still, I can’t make full sense of this last year, I’m sure I will be able to make sense of the whole last decade one day. Hopefully, by then, you would still be watching this space to see how T. Dench Patel unfolds and we’d be able to talk about this article one day and make sense of what you’ve read so far and what comes up/came up for you.
Yours sincerely,
T. Dench Patel
