Over dinner, one of these evenings me and my father were having a chat. I had to write this article and it was on my mind for two weeks now. What was and is incredible was that I thought I was the only one thinking about it and little did I know that my father and I were on the same wavelength. Here I was talking to my father about my understanding of life going forward and I asked him what does he think about all this? You know all of this? What an unspecific question you must think but he knew exactly what I meant? So, let me clarify it for you so that you know what exactly the question was about. I meant us, the world, people, the things that happen to us, the choices we make, the world beyond, life, what we’re doing here on this planet etc.
See I had these questions in me for ages and I know my father is the only man on earth that knows me well enough and will give me the answer in his opinion from his higher self. He has always given me words or wisdom while growing up and now his wisdom to me are pearls of wisdom. This is a man not far from the age of eighty. So here I was just wondering about the right title for the article and I kept chopping and changing it because it didn’t sit right with me and the content, hence, why it took two weeks to really get down to writing it.
What brought me to this topic was me observing people in the last six weeks i.e. how relationships are with kids, the things parents have to do, the example you have to be, long term friendships, extended families and even the news that people have died. I have come from a world of solitude to an intricate life built like a web or like a tree (including its branches) over decades through my parents and their parents’ existence. In the last six weeks the number of times I got asked, “Do you remember this person and that person?” really left me embarrassed. I had a no memory of most of these people from the past.
So, what brought this article into existence was when I was watching active manipulation taking place and like Oprah, I had an “Aha” moment. We all have good and bad in us i.e. we all have manipulation, humour, childishness, fear, temper, talking, jealousy, listening, manners, generosity etc. These are just a few that comes to mind. We all have something we’ve taken on with time whether it’s been through watching a movie, learning from life or reading etc. It then starts to live in us but it’s up to us how we’re going to use it. Let me give you an example.
Imagine a lioness. She is left to survive but before that, she grew up and as cubs, they play around and play fight i.e. natural instincts. When I watched documentaries of animals I watched how a lioness stalks and even try to camouflage herself in the bushes trying to catch her prey but the same lioness then lets her cubs eat and her cubs stalk each other, camouflage themselves and scare the hell out of each other, then run off to mummy to eventually jump on her, drive her mad until they fall off to sleep.
Now here’s you, you are curious as a child and playful then you go to school. You face bullying, not all the teachers praise you and you don’t get along will all the kids. You eventually hang around with kids who you get along with. With life, you learn about social behaviours and might attain skills like emotional intelligence, how to defend yourself with words or how to carry yourself through situations and know when it’s time to just run…
Just think about it, maybe you want to be playful with your partner and want to play a prank on him/her. You have to maybe manipulate or lie a little so you can organise that surprise party and did anyone ever play good cop and bad cop with you just to challenge you on who you really are or the decision you’re about to make or if you’re going to sway from what you stand for or believe in.
And so, this is what my father said, “We all have jealousy, envy, regret, humour you know, but it depends on us what we’re choosing from these qualities or what we’re feeling. We all have good and bad inside us but is bad really bad if you’re using it to do good things? It might not live inside us but we might be inclined to use it.”
I’ve just put the above in a more intellectual way while my father just talked to me the way he best speaks to me without any fluffy words.
So, in a nutshell, my opinion is as follows, the answer lies inside us, how we choose to use what we know. My belief is in every good, there is bad and in every bad, there is good but live intentionally. It kind of makes me think about what people say about the universe i.e. that the universe doesn’t recognise good or bad and that you attract what you think of the most; be it positive or negative. I personally am not so certain about that but one thing I can say for sure is that with what we already know we can use with intention to attract the good or the best outcome for our own good.
We already got everything we want, we don’t have it because we haven’t unlocked the full potential within us. – 20:03, 17 May 2019, T. Dench Patel
